There have been many bumps in the road. There have been some hours where I have been discouraged and wanted to give up. But I found the strength, the desire and the determination to push through, to find what would work for me AND I did not give up.

For twenty two years, I cried a bucket load, my battle with depression was intense. I had been on medications to fight it, but all they did was make me drowsy or loopy. Not something that I could do with being home alone with three kids. The only way that I could fight my depression was to do it naturally. That came in 2014 when I decided that I would make the time to workout every day for 30 minutes. I can do anything for a minute right? That’s what they tell me lol

I put myself as a priority and did a 30 minute work out every day for 21 days. Two months later, I decided I wanted to up the ante so to speak and got a bag of chocolate shakeology.

I was getting results but I wanted more. I wanted to get healthy from the inside out and I knew I wasn’t getting the nutrients that I needed on a daily basis. Thank God I found Beachbody and Shakeology. My nutrition is in check. My fitness is in check and my depression is gone. I am living life to the fullest. I am 45 years old and this is the BEST that I have ever felt!

Insanity Max 30 Results

My son joined the Army last summer straight out of high school. I will never forget how excited he was the day he called and told me he had his dream job. He was going to be a combat medic. The only words I heard was combat.

I was happy that he was so excited, I was a wreck on the inside and turned to an old best friend….FOOD! I put on the weight, I lost the mindset that had made me so happy and I threw myself into coaching everyone else AND NOT taking care of myself.

Don’t get me wrong! I was still going through the motions. I did my workouts. I did the meal plans. I drank my water. I read my personal growth books. I just didn’t let them sink in. I was too caught up in waiting for the phone call from my son. I never knew when it would come and that was ALL I thought about. I was an emotional wreck. 😦1723

I finally realized that my son was truly happy and that I could let him go, so to speak, when I went to Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio with my daughter to watch him graduate from AIT. He was NOW officially a Combat Medic in the Army. The look on his face gave me the peace I needed to start focusing on myself again. I just wasn’t sure how or where to start again.

I will never forget the night I spoke to a friend and fellow coach on my team about Insanity Max 30. She told me to get off my duff and do it with her. I was one day behind her start day. I thought she was crazy. I mean…I couldn’t put any pressure on my hand or elbow. I had carpal tunnel and cubital tunnel surgery in December and it wasn’t healing the way it should. It still hurt to use my hand to roll out of bed. How was I supposed to do pushups?

Somehow, and I am not sure how, I ended up agreeing to do Insanity Max 30, one of the longest programs I have ever committed to, even though I was scared that I wouldn’t be able to do it.18361050_10207467583762710_2077998912_n

Now, I admit that when I first started this program in Wichita, KS, I was still on vacation, but I did not want to wait and give myself a chance to change my mind. I took my photos in my daughter’s hall way and I sat down after ward and cried. I couldn’t believe I had let myself get back there again. Almost ALL of the progress I had made in the last 2 1/2 years was gone! 😦

I went out to my daughter’s living room and started day 1. That was a hard one for me. I was out of shape (again), I couldn’t breathe (again) and I hurt like crazy. But I was determined to make a difference and make sure that this time I didn’t throw it ALL away. I was not going to sabotage myself again!

PicMonkey CollageMy first day of doing Cardio Challenge I maxed out at 8:31. This just means that I pushed myself as hard as I could and took my first break 8:31 into the workout. I had to stop when they started doing planks and pushups. There was NO WAY that I could do them. It hurt so much!

Fast forward to sixty days later….there were a few workouts that I was able to do the entire 30 minutes without maxing out! Yes! Yes! Yes! How? This program helped with my rehab for my hand. I started small, I modified the modifier and it helped stretch my hand and elbow out again. I now can put pressure on my hand without being in excruciating pain. I am able to do pushups and planks, granted they are modified on my knees but I am doing them.PicMonkey Collage back

Yes, I got some AMAZING results with Insanity Max 30 BUT I am truly more thankful for the use of my hand and elbow again. I am thankful that I am no longer in pain anymore. I am thankful that I never gave up and kept going. I gained a lot of confidence in myself and my abilities in this program.PicMonkey Collage side 2

I have heard so many times from people that I have asked to join challenges with me that they can’t do it because they can’t move or it is too hard of a program. I have heard that you CAN’T get results from a program if you MODIFY.

AND I am here to say YOU ARE WRONG! I modified this ENTIRE program. I NEVER went to the floor for pushups until half way through because I was modifying the modifier. AND I GOT SOME AMAZING RESULTS!

7 Steps to Get Out of Debt

Mom, I need new shoes for wrestling.  The motor just went in the car.  The dog has a mass on his shoulder.  Hours are getting cut at work.  Surgery for your wrist is scheduled and you will be out of work for 6 weeks. Time to crawl in a hole right?dave-ramsey-quote-e1412126359691

Statements like this can be instantly depressing if you don’t have a rainy day fund.   I don’t and believe me those statements scared the hell out of me and depressed me for weeks.  Now, I am taking the steps, through Dave Ramsey, to get control back with my money and tell IT where it needs to go instead of dreading looking in the mailbox.

I will be doing a series showing my journey from being thousands upon thousands of dollars into debt to finally living debt free.  I am going to take control of my money one step at a time.  Is it going to be easy?   NO.  Is it going to be worth it?  YES!

Dave says that there are 7 baby steps to take.  These steps, I will admit, scare me.  They don’t look easy at all but again will it be worth it?

First things first.  I have to create that dreaded budget.  I just downloaded Every Dollar.  This budget/manage money tracker app that I downloaded to my iphone. Dave recommends it and I figure if it is good enough for him it is good enough for me. 🙂

Today is the first day of my taking control of my money.  Today I plan out my budget for the month.  Today I am setting my financial goals and sticking with them.

Dave’s 7 Baby Steps:

1 – Save $1000 to create an emergency fund

I know I know.  If you are like me I took a look at this and said what the hell Dave!  If I am living paycheck to paycheck why wouldn’t I want to try to pay off bills so that I am not being hounded by collectors.  Wouldn’t I want to pay off bills instead of just letting money sit in a bank?  But he assures me that it is important to have that rainy day fund for those unexpected emergencies.

2 – Pay OFF ALL Debt but the House

List ALL of your debts but the house in order from smallest to largest.  The smallest one should be your number one priority.

3 – 3 to 6 Months of Expenses in Savings

This step is all about building a full emergency fund. It’s time to kick debt to the curb.  Sit down and calculate what you would need to live on for 3 to 6 months and start saving to protect you from some of lives bigger surprises.

4 – Invest 15% Of Your Household Income Into Retirementborrow

With no payments put 15% toward your retirement.  The money you were using to pay off your debt can now be used to build your future.  There are plenty of options out there so pick what is right for you.

5 – College Funding for Children

College tuition and housing is so expensive.  Don’t let it creep up on you.  Start a savings now.  There are two smart ways to save.  A 529 college savings fund or an education savings account.

6 – Pay Off Home Early

Imagine your life with no mortgage. This is your last debt keeping you from being completely debt free!  Apply all of the extra money to paying off your home.  You will save thousands in interest fees.

7 – Build Wealth and Give

This is the LAST step!  Give yourself a pat on the back!  Build your wealth, give generously and set your future generations up with an inheritance.  People with no debt  can live and do anything they want.  🙂
