“It is not hard. Don’t you dare tell us this is hard. Quitting heroin is hard. Beating cancer is hard. Drinking your coffee black. Is. Not. Hard.” – Melissa Hartwig
Ok so maybe it’s not hard but in my humble opinion, it is bitter and disgusting. I have tried for 12 days to drink my coffee black and without any sweetener AND ALL I get is a bitter cup. I was desperate one day and was able to gulp down a half a cup of joe before I had to call it quites. Every other aspect of the Whole30 has not been an issue EXCEPT drinking my coffee black. Which makes no sense because in December I went without coffee for 3 weeks with no issues. So why am I craving it so much now?
I have no idea! But I do know that I have tried everything that my friends and I can think of to make it drinkable. I have added salt…umm yeah …NO! I have added baking soda…umm NO way! I have added ghee…the oil spill on the top of my coffee was thoroughly disgusting…so No! I have added coconut oil, coconut milk…no and NO!
Then I heard about this product called Nutpods which is Whole30 approved. I figured it was my last shot and being able to drink coffee during this journey. I looked in the stores close to my house, and when I say close I mean a half hour away. They didn’t carry it. I traveled to Super Saturday 2 hours away from my house and figured I would check the stores there.
Whole Foods and Trader Joes did not have it OR I just couldn’t find it. Wow, Whole Foods is absolutely amazing and if you are the owner please note that we REALLY need one in Bangor Maine. I’ll be your first employee and customer! Pretty please!!!! 🙂
So I had given up ALL hope of finding Nutpods. I had even tried Amazon but they were out of stock. UGH! So imagine my surprise when I am shopping last night at the Natural Living Center in Bangor and find that EUREEKA!!!! they have Nutpods. I had three choices…original…french vanilla…and hazelnut. Of couse, I immediately go for the hazelnut to find that it is NOT Whole30 approved. The coffee gods are against me. lol
BUT original and french vanilla are. I bought both and even though it s 8 pm when I got home, I brewed a cup and I am happy to announce that YES, Virgina, I was able to drink a full cup of joe. 🙂 The Nutpods took the bitterness away and I thoroughly enjoyed my coffee while watching the Patriots playoff game. Still no sweetener in it but it was enjoyable. Actually, I think I will go have a cup now. 🙂
Enjoy your Sunday and if you do happen to try Nutpods let me know what you think. 🙂
