7 Steps to Get Out of Debt

Mom, I need new shoes for wrestling.  The motor just went in the car.  The dog has a mass on his shoulder.  Hours are getting cut at work.  Surgery for your wrist is scheduled and you will be out of work for 6 weeks. Time to crawl in a hole right?dave-ramsey-quote-e1412126359691

Statements like this can be instantly depressing if you don’t have a rainy day fund.   I don’t and believe me those statements scared the hell out of me and depressed me for weeks.  Now, I am taking the steps, through Dave Ramsey, to get control back with my money and tell IT where it needs to go instead of dreading looking in the mailbox.

I will be doing a series showing my journey from being thousands upon thousands of dollars into debt to finally living debt free.  I am going to take control of my money one step at a time.  Is it going to be easy?   NO.  Is it going to be worth it?  YES!

Dave says that there are 7 baby steps to take.  These steps, I will admit, scare me.  They don’t look easy at all but again will it be worth it?

First things first.  I have to create that dreaded budget.  I just downloaded Every Dollar.  This budget/manage money tracker app that I downloaded to my iphone. Dave recommends it and I figure if it is good enough for him it is good enough for me. 🙂

Every Dollar Budgeting Tool

Today is the first day of my taking control of my money.  Today I plan out my budget for the month.  Today I am setting my financial goals and sticking with them.

Dave’s 7 Baby Steps:

1 – Save $1000 to create an emergency fund

I know I know.  If you are like me I took a look at this and said what the hell Dave!  If I am living paycheck to paycheck why wouldn’t I want to try to pay off bills so that I am not being hounded by collectors.  Wouldn’t I want to pay off bills instead of just letting money sit in a bank?  But he assures me that it is important to have that rainy day fund for those unexpected emergencies.

2 – Pay OFF ALL Debt but the House

List ALL of your debts but the house in order from smallest to largest.  The smallest one should be your number one priority.

3 – 3 to 6 Months of Expenses in Savings

This step is all about building a full emergency fund. It’s time to kick debt to the curb.  Sit down and calculate what you would need to live on for 3 to 6 months and start saving to protect you from some of lives bigger surprises.

4 – Invest 15% Of Your Household Income Into Retirementborrow

With no payments put 15% toward your retirement.  The money you were using to pay off your debt can now be used to build your future.  There are plenty of options out there so pick what is right for you.

5 – College Funding for Children

College tuition and housing is so expensive.  Don’t let it creep up on you.  Start a savings now.  There are two smart ways to save.  A 529 college savings fund or an education savings account.

6 – Pay Off Home Early

Imagine your life with no mortgage. This is your last debt keeping you from being completely debt free!  Apply all of the extra money to paying off your home.  You will save thousands in interest fees.

7 – Build Wealth and Give

This is the LAST step!  Give yourself a pat on the back!  Build your wealth, give generously and set your future generations up with an inheritance.  People with no debt  can live and do anything they want.  🙂

Far From Perfect

My journey has been far from perfect. I tried just about every diet known and might lose a few pounds but then I gained it back. It has been quite an emotional roller coaster.

My heaviest weight was 235+, why the plus? Because I was so heavy that I stopped weighing myself but I know that I still had to buy clothes in a bigger size. The 235 was the last time I weighed myself. 😦

During the last 7 years I have gone from 235+ to 140. It wasn’t a matter of not knowing that I was eating the wrong food and I knew that I had to workout BUT I just couldn’t keep it off. I was a fat skinny gal. I would lose the weight BUT I did not change my way of thinking. Which of course made it the perfect opportunity for the weight to creep back on and I ALWAYS gained back everything I lost plus more.journey

And now I am happy to share that things are going in the direction that I want…finally. I have gained control over my emotional eating. I no longer take laxatives or make myself sick to lose weight. I also don’t bike 20 + miles, hours on a bike to lose a few ounces.

What’s changed? The way I think, the amount of healthy food I eat AND what I am doing for workouts. My workouts are no longer than 40 minutes tops. Mostly they are right around 30 minutes.

So if you ask me WHY I became a Beachbody coach this is a prime example. My roller coaster ride is over, my mindset has changed and now I know how to lose the weight, tone up AND keep it off. My life has definitely changed and I love to share my journey with others. Even those photos that used to be hidden away. Now I love to show them because they show how far I have come.

I have an accountability group starting on January 30th and I have a few spots left open. Comment below if you are ready to fill a spot and get your own journey started.

Country Heat…Can you really get results?

After I had my surgery on December 20th I thought that I front-resultswas going to go backwards in my journey and I was ready to throw in the towel. I had carpal tunnel in my right wrist and cubital tunnel in my right elbow.
No planks, no pushups, no weights. I was not happy as I had just joined a group that was going to start weight lifting. 😦
But then I started thinking about the old me and how I NEVER finished what I started. When life threw an obstacle in my path I would always quit or hide. And I didn’t want to be that person anymore, which is why I started this journey 2 1/2 years ago.
I decided to give Country Heat a try. I admit that I wasresults-back completely skeptical. I honestly thought I was wasting my time and that I would never be able to lose weight or tone up with this program. I am happy to say that I was wrong.
Yes I started this program with my arm in a sling. I modified because jumping around hurt. I didn’t do any of the arm movements. Gradually I started adding them in and stopped
modifying altogether.
My totals for Country Heat. I lost 14 inches!!!! I lost 4% of my body fat!! AND I lost 5.2 lbs!!!
The skeptic in me was ecstatic to see that not only did I get some results but I was amazed at how many inches I lost.
Do you have any questions about Country Heat, Shakeology or maybe how you can start your health and fitness journey?  If your not currently working with another coach feel free to contact me.  🙂

Almond and Pumpkin Breakfast Porridge

Almond and Pumpkin Breakfast Porridge

I like a meal that is easy to make, good for you and tastes great.

Credit: thefullhelping.com

1 cup canned pumpkin (or homemade pumpkin puree)
⅓ cup almond pulp, leftover from making homemade almond milk
1 heaping tablespoon ground flax or chia seed
⅓ cup almond milk (plus extra as needed)
Pinch sea salt
½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
2 teaspoons maple syrup (if desired) (If your doing Whole30 make sure to leave this out)
Toppings: chopped nuts, cacao nibs, dried fruit, etc.

Add the pumpkin, pulp, flax or chia meal, almond milk, sea salt, and cinnamon to a small sauce pan. Whisk the ingredients together and heat over medium flame till they’re starting to bubble.

Reduce porridge to a simmer for a few minutes, stirring frequently. Remove from heat and drizzle with maple syrup.

Sprinkle with toppings as desired, and serve.

Makes a single serving.

I hope you enjoy this as much as I did! ❤

Country Heat…Disappointed?

The last thirty days have flown by. I admit that when I first started Country Heat I was a little disappointed. 😒coach

The group that I am in with Autumn Calabrese was starting Chisel from Hammer and Chisel. I love that program and had been very excited to do it at the same time that Autumn was doing it.

I was so angry that I couldn’t but I knew that just having surgery on my wrist and elbow, well there was absolutely no way I was going to be able to lift weights.country-heat

I could have used my surgery as an excuse to stop. I could have used my disappointment at not being able to do Hammer and Chisel as an excuse to stop. BUT I DIDN’T.

I knew I had limitations so I just found something that worked for me. Country Heat. At first I danced with my arm in a sling to keep it steady, then I got to the point where I would let my arm down and just do they foot movements now I do it all.

So if you want to know if you can lose weight and tone up when you have to modify even a dance program…well come back in two days when I share my results.

Until then get moving! 🙂 Even if it is walking around your living room. Or turn the radio on and dance like no one
is watching.

And know that I am in a little town called EXETER Maine waiting for you to decide it’s time. I am ready to help you. You just have to decide that YOU ARE WORTH IT! ❤️week-3-back

Are you ready?

I have a group starting in January 30th to help you get started. And there is a spot with your name on it. 😉

Shakeology Super Food Spotlight ~ Cacao

After drinking Shakeology for two years, I am ashamed to admit that I had no idea what was in it.

When I first started drinking it, I had been told that it was good for me and it would be a game changer in my health journey. I was told it would help me lose weight, but that is just one benefit from drinking this amazing shake.
So, I started drinking it. Yes, I saw the effects. I had more energy. My skin was softer. I didn’t have to take 8-10 stool softeners a day. My hair and nails were growing really fast. I wasn’t depressed anymore.

The benefits of drinking Shakeology are amazing to me and well worth the money I save each month to make sure I am NEVER without it! I decided I wanted to know more about the ingredients.
This week’s Shakeology Ingredient Spotlight is Cacao. Normal cocoa powder and chocolate have been chemically processed and roasted, which destroys a large amount of the antioxidants and flavanols (the things that keep you young and healthy). A recent study suggested that between 60% and 90% of the original antioxidants in cacao are lost through common “Dutch processing”. (frombegoodorganics.com)

Some of the amazing health benefits are:
1- It has 40 times the antioxidants than blueberries. That’s truly amazing!

2- If you are on a plant based or vegan diet and looking for a great source of iron, than CACAO is for you! Cacao is the highest plant-based source of iron known to man, at a whopping 7.3mg per 100g. This compares to beef and lamb at 2.5mg, and spinach at 3.6mg. To get the full benefits of it, make sure to combine it with a vitamin C source.

3- Cacao is also one of the highest plant-based sources of magnesium, the most deficient mineral in the Western world. Magnesium is important for a healthy heart, and helps turn glucose into energy enabling your brain to work with laser-sharp clarity and focus.

4- Cacao has more calcium than cow’s milk. I would never have guessed this one. 🙂 It has 160mg per 100g vs only 125mg per 100ml of milk.cacoa6

5- Cacao is a great source of four scientifically proven bliss chemicals – serotonin, dopamine, anandamide and phenylethylamine. These neurotransmitters are associated with cosy feelings of wellbeing, happiness, and can even alleviate depression. A natural, healthy, delicious (and legal) way to get your happy buzz on.

Just 5 more reasons for me to drink my Shakeology every day.

I challenge you to get your hands on some raw organic cacao and add it to your life this week. Let me know how you add it. 🙂

Thankfulness Instead of Negativity

I am trying to get rid of the negative energy that has been surrounding me this past month.  I figured that the best way to do that is to share something that I am thankful for.  Of course I am thankful for my daughter, but this post is about SO much more than that!thankful

I am thankful to Carl Daikeler and Beachbody today.  You have absolutely NO idea why and that is ok.  Let me explain.  Being a Beachbody coach is about changing lives right?  RIGHT!  I work with others on their physical transformations BUT there is a lot more to it than just the physical side.  We also work on mental transformations.  Changing how you feel about things, what you focus on.  Thankfully this is not just for my clients BUT for myself as well.

Beachbody has given Kaitlyn and me something to share besides being related.  We are BOTH coaches! ❤  Last year I was blessed that Kait and I were able to go to our FIRST Coach Summit in Nashville and we had an amazing time.  We were able to meet other coaches from our team, who have become closer than some family members.   I am having a great time bonding with her over something that I am very passionate about.  ❤ ❤ ❤

In 2016,once again, Kait and I  met in Nashville for ANOTHER coach summit and I was so excited!    We will worked out with Autumn Calabrese AGAIN and met up with a lot of other coaches!  It was such an amazing time.  I love being surrounded by all of the love and positive vibes from the other coaches.

Anyhow, long story trying to be short, thank you Beachbody and Carl  for not only giving me an outlet to help other women achieve their goals BUT for also giving me the opportunity to see my beautiful daughter and achieve my own goals.  This is our yearly visit and I just wanted to say thank you for making it happen.

I am so excited that this July we will be going to New Orleans!  I have never been there and it is going to be absolutely amazing.

Thank you so much for the support and your interest in this blog!  If you haven’t already, please make sure to check out Darlene Caron Fitness where you can find more recipes, fitness tips, motivation and information on upcoming health and fitness challenge groups that I offer.
